Dinner Music Choice: Under the Missouri Sky: Pat Methany and Charlie Hayden

by Don Parkinson
(Ottawa)

My general rule of thumb is keep it lyrical in tone, avoid the frantic stuff (e.g. be bop, some classical stuff with annoying frantic flourishes). Good examples include soft female vocals such as Madeleine Peyroux, Norah Jones or much of Bill Evans (check out Undercurrent which he did with Jim Hall on guitar).
