Choosing your vase size for table centerpieces

Choosing the vase size for table centrepieces is pretty simple. You will almost always be using short flowers for centrepieces, so your guests don’t have to talk over them. Short flowers mean short vases. In general, cut the stems so the flowers are about twice as high as your vase.

A select few easy ways of arranging flowers

white roses floating in a glass bowl It’s almost an exaggeration to call this one flower arranging. Here the roses lie in a little water on a lovely glass plate. These roses are perfect for a serene and elegant table.

You can also float a flower in a round glass vase. If it’s peony season you’re in luck, they’re also perfect for this kind of arrangements. red rose table centerpieces

Red rose table centrepieces are perfect for so many occasions. Here’s a simple way of arranging flowers like red roses. There aren't even any added ferns or decorative greens to fuss with.

To make your arranagement, put water in a short round vase, and then start testing for the right stem length with one or two flowers. Cut them all just one or two at a time. That way if you judge wrong the first time you haven’t cut them all to the wrong length.

Cut the roses down and strip the foliage where necessary. Position the roses all around the edge of the glass, criss-crossing the stems. Add slightly longer roses in the middle, look all around the arrangement and make sure it looks pretty from every side.

Easy ways to change the look of your table centrepieces

Of course roses are not the only choice.

Just change the color of the flowers you select for your floating arrangement or your round arrangement. Or choose different flowers. Keep the size and scale of the flowers small enough for the table. That means no tall spikey flowers like gladioli on the table. (But they would look fine in your living room.)

Now you have many different ways of arranging flowers for your dinner party table centerpieces without going to flower arranging school.
